Second Life News: Averlast Adds Mixed Martial Arts Arena

Second Life’s premier boxing gym adds a new dimension to virtual combat with the addition of a mixed martial arts arena. Since Karine Koba opened the Averlast Gym in 2007 (located at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Trueblood/166/171/663 ), the place has become synonymous with the best boxing action in Second Life with the group boasting over 1,000 members. Week after week, fans pack the sim to capacity to watch men and women alike duke it out in the ring for honor, cash prizes, and above all, fun.

Recognizing the growing popularity of mixed martial arts, a sport that has been with us in one form or another since the Ancient Greeks introduced pankration in 683 B.C. and which today can boast a tripling of its audience every year, Averlast is proud to announce the formation of Averlast MMA.
Averlast’s dedicated staff along with the best equipment available have contributed to the group’s status as the oldest and most successful pugilistic experience in Second Life. That tradition will continue with Averlast MMA. Boxing will maintain its current configuration, but the new facility will also feature fights using the diverse martial arts styles available in Abramelin Wolfe’s Combat Evolution fighting system.

The new brand will be under the supervision of Averlast MMA Director EastCoastTony Dubois, an avid MMA enthusiast and experienced member in good standing of the Averlast Boxing staff. In terms of brand support, Combat Evolution vendors are on-site for the perusal of new fighters, and Averlast designer Abel Undercity is already at work, creating a new line of Averlast MMA gear. Karine Koba will apply her organizational experience to once again set the standard for all other gyms to try to follow.

In addition, Averlast MMA already has the privileged support and guidance of real-life members of the professional MMA scene. Averlast MMA visitors can expect frequent visits from actual coaches, trainers and fighters like former UFC light-heavyweight champion Chuck “Iceman” Liddell. Mr. Liddell is also the founder of MMAA Jacked and has been invaluable in helping to get Averlast MMA off the ground.

If you’d like more information, or to arrange interviews with Averlast Owner Karine Koba or Averlast MMA Director EastCoastTony Dubois, please contact Abel Undercity via instant message or at abelundercity@gmail.com. Thank you for your interest.

Lets not forget that Averlast is not an innovator here regarding MMA in Second Life. RAGE Fighting Championships has been building the MMA community in Second Life for as long as Averlast has been doing boxing. They even reported on it in their own blog located here back in May.

RAGE Fighting Championships has been on Metaverse.tv, and was the 4th highest viewed video in the companies history.

Averlast is simply jumping on the band wagon here….just like they did with the boxing craze that SLB pioneered.

    Nothing new.
