Do the Lindens know how to throw a party? Well after the success of their virtual world, Second Life, let’s hope so. The Lindens held a 24 hour marathon event yesterday in appreciation of their Concierge Level residents–those residents who spend the big bucks. It was a highly anticipated–and highly exclusive–event. The invite sent to all Concierge customers read :
“We’d like to invite you to join us for a party on March 15th! Come and
hang out with the Concierge team and other concierge customers. There
will be an Ancient Rome theme… Bring your togas!
Because we have residents all over the world, the party will run the
full 24 hours on the 15th (12:01am to midnight PST), with a variety of
games and events hosted by the members of the Concierge team.”
Lucky enough to be invited, I donned a Cleopatra costume and headed over to the locations where this must-attend event for major inworld players was being hosted.
The party was hosted on five different ancient Rome inspired sims; Colosseum, Insula Augusta, Mount Olympus, The Temple and Cogito ergo sum.
I started out on Mount Olympus where a huge crowd was participating in a “does anyone have a blank” game organized by Dee Linden. Knowing I didn’t have an image of her as a butterfly, I quickly deleted the blue notices popping up on screen every other second and tried to make out some avatars through the haze of the clouds. I made my way over to a column outlining the schedule of events and scanned the notecard:
Come one, come all! Here’s a schedule of some of the Linden-hosted events held during the Concierge Party. There will be five islands available for meeting, greetings, and hanging out. All times are SLT (or Pacific Daylight Time).

I moved to the dance floor on Colosseum, and while lucky enough to get in on the first try, I found myself unable to move because of the massive crowd. Not wanting to try and struggle with slow moving chat windows I made my way to a less popular destination.

My next stop was Insula Augusta, which was much less crowded and provided a nice respite from the hoards of people on the mountain top. I was able to maneuver my way around enough to find a grab bag and copy it to inventory.

The goodie bag included a female 80’s costume, a male 80’s suit, and landmarks to all the various islands.
The island itself was beautiful. The centerpiece was a domed gazebo with a pegasus steeple and it made for a lovely spot for dancing and people watching.
The final destinations were much less populated. The Temple held ruins and Cogito ergo sum offered visitors a winding pathway with various landmarks and attractions.

PrinterBrian Dowd: “Was refreshing to interact with other residents in a role-playing fashion, something I don’t usually do as RL business needs often drive my actions in-world”
Deb Regent : “I visited all of the sims during the party. Loved the atmosphere. Great outfits and ideas. Who was the semi-clad lady on horseback? The best thing about the party was interacting with other sim owners and being able to compare experiences with one another. The games were fun too, although I saw a couple of Lindens with their backs to the wall and being backed into Aphrodite’s
If you attended the event I would enjoy your thoughts and comments on this 24HR Second Life Party. Thanks!
