Second Life Traffic Report – Top 10 SL Locations, Midnight Reflections Put You In The Mood

Last week’s top contenders held steady, claiming the majority of this weeks top 10. There are a few new hot spots including Mauve and Midnight Reflections. Mauve is bustling with residents unpacking all their shopping bags in the public sandbox. Thrilling. Midnight Reflections, on the other hand, is much more interesting. Featuring a lovely landscape of sexy waterfalls and plush mountainsides, this is the place if you are looking for “love and romance”. The big losers this week? Passion Island and the French-language only sim; Gaia.
As usual you won’t find camping chairs, free lindens, automated avatars, or “bots”on any of the SLENTRE.COM’s top 10. The weekly population data was compiled by a 3rd party source and then reviewed to exclude any sites that engage in tactics designed to boost traffic rankings. What remains is an accurate listing of where real Second Life residents are dancing, chatting, spending Lindens, and enjoying their second lives.

1) Franks Place, Owner – Gymmy Sinatra

Franks Place is a 30’s/40’s style jazz club paying homage to Frank Sinatra. According to Ray Trafalgar, one of the managers, the place is packed nightly with 80+ residents. The sim also houses a mall where you can find the formal wear required to gain entrance into the club.
“We try hard to keep the formal attire enforced and have a security of some 25 to keep it that way,” says Trafalgar. “If you enjoy the music of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and the Rat Pack, this is your place.”
2) Remembrance, Owner – Luxa Budan

Remembrance or NOR sim is one of 12 islands that houses a dark roleplay and combat sim. According to Savina Decosta, who has been playing for over a year, the primary goal is to defeat other players and gain power.

She is a Lycan and “fights with her claws.”

When asked if there are there public battles, Savina replied “Yes, HUGE public battles”.
3) Plush Zeta,Owner – Jebee Reinsch
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Plush%20Zeta/80/136/22
Plush Zeta’s main draw is the Red Light District where one can find escorts, Sex Shops, Bars, Hotels, Discotheques, and Nightclubs. The primary goal of the girls walking the streets is to make money and they will happily chat with a stranger if the price is right. I managed to chat with Mariah Trenkins, an escort in the district, and when asked what she does, her reply was “Make money. What else?”
According to Miss Trenkins (pictured left), she makes anywhere from $0.00L to $2000-$3000L per evening. The constant crowd makes for interesting people watching. Too bad there aren’t any hash bars nearby.
4) The 5th Element , Owner – Dakota Neumann
http://slurl.com/secondlife/GOL%204/128/128/0
The 5th Element is a large topless dance club where one can find music, live performers, topless only dancers, parties, and live DJ’s.
According to Ariel Otafuku, club CFO and dancer, the crowd comes for the live music and sense of community. “We all seem to know each other.”

The best times to visit the club fluctuate as the crowd is quite international–meaning everyone is living in different time zones. “We get lots of Germans, Frenchies, Americans, and gawd knows what else. LOL!”
5) Help Island Public, Owner – Governor Linden
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Help%20Island%20Public/128/128/26
If you want to learn more about Second Life, then Help Island is where it’s at. According to the information on the sim, a resident can “learn to script, learn to build, and pick up Freebies on Help Island Public!”
6) Badland, Owner – Jesse Murdock
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Badlands/128/128/0
Badlands hosts Bad Girls club, one of SL’s most popular nightclubs.
Floating above the packed dance floor is an intimate private area to chat and escape the crowd.
7) Apollo – Owner, Dane Zander
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Apollo/128/128/0
Apollo is a beautiful Grecian-inspired garden with an under the stars dance floor called Salsas y Boleros . The sim doesn’t allow nudity but lists itself as a place for starlit romance where rules apply.
8 ) Mauve – Owner, Bryon Ruxton
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Mauve/90/84/33
The Mauve parcel houses 3 distinct areas: a public sandbox, a Linden InfoHub and Mauve Falls. The sandbox region is heavily populated by residents needing to unpack boxes, but I was able to interview one newbie who was there to learn.
(Itchy Schimmer learning how to build in Mauve’s public sandbox region)
When asked “Why are you here?,” Itchy replied, “To learn how to build stuff…
I know how to unpack boxes…I kinda got the hang of that.. How do I build stuff? LOL”.
(Residents gather at the Mauve InfoHub)
Also popular on the Mauve sim is the InfoHub, owned by Governor Linden. A large group of residents were there to learn many aspects of Second Life, including unpacking boxes!
9) Midnight Reflection – Owner, Missbehavin Neva
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Midnight%20Reflections/128/128/0
Midnight Reflection is a sim that boasts “love and romance”. It is decorated with lush foliage and beautiful waterfalls. The center of activity is the large dance floor nestled among the high clifftops. A pathway runs along the upper ledge of the rocks making for beautiful views and a nice romantic getaway from the action on the dance floor. The owner, Missbehavin, is very friendly, accessible, and willing to answer questions.

One resident, Money Bury, makes Midnight Reflections a major part of her regular stomping grounds.
“I love it here! They have many dances and events. Most everyone is rather friendly and there is always someone here. Evenings they have events, contests, a live DJ, and theme nights.”
10) CARP on Silvermoon, Owner – Angel Fluffy
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Silvermoon/60/187/242
CARP or Capture Roleplay is a BDSM RP/Roleplay area where predators/dominants capture and use prey/submissives/slaves. In order to join the game, you must wear the group tag. And there’s a fee of $95.00L to join.
According to CARP helper Orim Katsu (pictured above), the fees help pay for maintenance fees, etc. When asked what makes CARP different from other Roleplay games, Mr. Katsu replied, “The setting and rules, honestly. Granted, other sims have certain styles of RP the players must follow. But here, players may use any style they desire, as long as they follow the general rules. So you might have an evil knight kidnapping ladies, the strict dominatrix picking on random males, or just someone lost in a maze who comes upon a random person–who captures him and forces him to do things.” The group is very inviting and open to new visitors and offers a non-game area where players can chat IC (in character) or OOC (out of character).
This report was compiled using the powerful mapping tools provided by Mappa Novus, http://www.mappanovus.com/. Their in-house data collection technology regularly collects population data for each region of the Second Life metaverse. The data is stored over time so various statistical analyses can be made. Any sim that offers camping, free-lindens, or bots is disqualified.

Midnight Reflections is also a place to socialize and meet beautiful people. The friendly atmosphere allows for this, together with the frequent well organized and fun events. It’s always a party there, all day, all night, the best music, the sexiest avatars, the coolest staff and owner. Did I mention the landscaping is magnificent? And if romance is what’s in your mind, the possibilities are endless for flirting, passion and bliss.
